Bio
Fawn Walker Montgomery Biography Fawn Walker Montgomery is a community leader, healer, activist, and consultant who is deeply committed to supporting her community, advocating for social justice, promoting Black Liberation, and advancing racial equality. She’s the principal consultant at Fawn Walker Montgomery Consulting and CEO/CoFounder at Take Action Advocacy Group (TAAG).
She was born and raised in McKeesport, PA, which has fostered a strong connection to her community and fueled Fawn’s passion for activism since a young age. Her involvement in organizing started during middle school, where she successfully campaigned for the removal of a racially offensive book from the curriculum in the McKeesport School District. This pivotal experience sparked her interest in organizing and set her on a path to becoming an unwavering advocate.
Fawn's academic background includes a bachelor's degree in political science from Johnson C. Smith University, a historically Black college and university (HBCU). She furthered her education by obtaining a master's degree in criminal justice administration from Point Park University, which deepened her understanding of the systems and institutions affecting marginalized communities.
Besides her educational achievements, Fawn has extensive experience in public service and human services. She served two terms as a councilwoman in McKeesport and made history as the first Black woman to run for a State seat in the Mon Valley without a major party endorsement. In addition, she has over 16 years of experience working in non-profit/human services management, holding various positions such as Senior Clinician/Therapist and Supervisor/Manager for organizations like Allegheny Children's Initiative, Family Resources, Adelphoi Village, and Touching Families Incorporated. Her determination and resilience have propelled her to break down barriers and have her voice heard in the political sphere. Driven by her commitment to empower the community, she cofounded TAAG, an organization dedicated to advocating for Black liberation and racial equality.
Fawn's mental and physical health suffered significantly as a result of years of hard work. After bravely facing a life-threatening battle with endometriosis in the public eye, she decided to start a blog. The purpose of her blog was to raise awareness about holistic natural remedies, such as herbalism, and the healing power of ancestral connections. Additionally, she shed light on the injustices faced by Black women in the medical field.
She has been honored with numerous awards for her community work, including such as various 2022 Black History Awards; 2020 VEEM Civic Engagement Champion; 2020 SiStars Leadership Award recipient from Black Women’s Roundtable; 2018 New Pittsburgh Courier Women of Excellence; McKeesport NAACP 2018 Community Service Award; Unsung Hero 2018 Black History Achievement Award, Community Empowerment Association 2018 Nation Building Award; Voice of Vision Outstanding Councilwoman; 2013 Mon River Fleet Women of Achievement Social Leader and Nominee Athena Young Professional Award.
